When your friend tries out a new look

We’ve all been in the situation. You’re about to head out for a Friday or Saturday night, maybe you pick a mate up, maybe you meet them at their place but when they open the door, you’re shocked.

The regular ol’ Joe is clearly trying to move on from a partner, maybe they’re maturing and realise it’s no longer time for V-necks (I’m kidding, it’s never time for V-necks) or whatever it is, but they’re doing something different.

Now, upon realising this, a good friend has two distinct avenues to walk down. The first is to burst out laughing, leading to one of the quickest confidence killers in modern society or they can nod and go ‘love what you’ve done with the… fishnets and My Little Pony shirt bro’.

Exit Brewing, a Victorian-based brewery, has recently debuted a new look, completely overhauling their logo, beer can design and vibe.

Thankfully for them, it’s no fishnets and MLP, it’s pretty groovy. But the key thing to remember is that despite a friend changing their clothes, they’re still the same friend on the inside, ditto for these Exit cans.

The nice people at Exit Brewing were kind enough to send ahead six samples of their core range of beer as well as few bits of merch on top. Starting with a session ale and moving up into a double IPA and even a cheeky limited edition Hazy IPA.

First up is the session ale is exactly what you’d want from your low alcohol beer, a bright citrusy beer and holds true to full flavour despite being only mid-strength.

My favourite of the core range was the Double IPA beer, a strong, pine-y IPA that packs a punch, and deservedly so, sitting at 9% ABV and clocking 100 on the IBU rating. As Exit Brewing describes it: “Because more is always better! More malt and more hops make this imperial scream of marmalade, caramel and pine. Be careful, it hides its ABV too well.”

They’re not wrong with that last part, some bold beers try and punch you just for the sport of it. This one holds back in that aspect and focuses on flavour, not shock factor.

The limited-edition Hazy IPA is a double dry-hopped juice bomb and it rocked up at the office right as I was in the middle of a hazy phase. I’m loving these kinds of beers and the Exit take on a modern classic didn’t let me down at all. Be quick with this one though, it’s only available for a limited time.

Be sure to check out Exit Brewing here, follow their socials or keep an eye out at several stockists to try a few from their core range or keep an eye out for them at the pub.
