Its innovative product offering (like stubbies wrapped in brown paper bags), combined with its on-premise focus has helped East 9th Brewing to achieve strong brand awareness and equity across the minds’ of beer drinkers all over the country.

Style: Ginger beer     ABV: 4.0%

Tasting notes from the brewer: A refreshingly dry ginger beer made in an untraditional manner, but with a traditional taste that’ll make you ask, ‘what’s going on here?’ Lick Pier is the perfect warm-weather drink served on ice and shared with friends. For the outrageous soul it can also be served with a wedge of lime.

“I’m sweet enough.”

It’s touch and go with me and ginger beer. On the one hand I can enjoy the drink for its refreshing summeriness, while on the other I find it’s sweetness a little overbearing.

As they go, I’d have to say Lick Pier is one of the better ginger beers I’ve tried but I still can’t see myself ever wanting more than one. It’s a good alternative to beer when an alternative’s needed, for me personally though that’s not too often.

Would I buy it again?
Possibly. I could see myself opting for one of these at a summer festival when the need for refreshment is paramount.

"Sweet summer soft drink."

As someone who has a strong dislike of ginger, this beer was trying to win a battle it never had a chance of winning.

Having said that, I wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to have a beer and after having a taste I can see its appeal.

As it pretty much tastes like a soft drink it would go down well for those who don’t like a strong alcoholic taste, it would be a quality addition to a punch and would appeal to anyone who likes a refreshing drink on a summers day but I guess that’s just about everyone.

Would I buy it again?
I wouldn’t, simply because I don’t like the taste of ginger.

“Sweet nothings...”

I should probably preface by saying that I’m not a big fan of ginger beer, or any soft drink for that matter, so I was skeptical about this one.

The ginger hit was delivered in a more subtle approach than expected, which I liked, and it was actually really delicious... but it was just too sweet for me.

I could easily drink one or two on a lazy Sunday, or any day for that matter, but any more than two would likely put me in a sugary coma that only someone like Pia Miller could wake me up from.

Would I buy it again?
It’s the kind of thing I’d buy occasionally, in the right situation, perhaps with a lady friend on a picnic date, but not for an all day drinking session with the boys.

“Short and sweet.”

Maybe it’s because I grew up in Queensland (home of Bundaberg Brewed Drinks), but ginger beer has always been an interesting concept to me. I’ve just never found a good alcoholic one... Until Lick Pier.

I completely understand why some people don’t like it – the taste of ginger sometimes makes me think of old ladies and rock candy, but the gingery taste of Lick Pier is quite understated when comparing to something like Harcourt Valley’s Ginger Kid. It’s definitely there, but it’s not obscene to the senses.

There is an intense after burn, and drinking too many becomes sickly sweet, but I found this quite enjoyable.

Would I buy it again?
In a heartbeat... Just not every day.
