WRBA01Watts River was started by two young families (brewers Aaron & Ben with over 11 years industry brewing experience and their wives Emily & Hanna) who are passionate about creating high quality, brewer-driven beers to share with everyone.

Their Cellar Door is now open in Healesville and although they are still putting the finishing touches on the fit out, they have comfy couches and delicious beers on tap.

Tasting notes from the brewer: An easy drinking blonde ale. Light malts, floral hops. This light coloured blonde ale uses a blend of pale Australian malts as well as hops from three continents to create a bright, clear flavour and aroma profile that makes it is easy to enjoy.

Style: Blonde    ABV: 4.7%

"Like a sweet, sea-scented breeze"

This is a pleasant, summery ale – light and citrusy. Maybe not the kind you beer you'd write home about but certainly the kind of beer that'd prompt a guy to think "not bad, I might grab another one of those". It's an easy drinking blonde that would be perfect for a boozy afternoon in the sun.

Would I buy it again? Yeah, I reckon.

“Light... and easy”

The Watts River Blonde is a very easy beer to drink, but I can’t help but remember being told as a youngster that just because you can do something, it doesn’t mean you should.

Before we started this review process, I would have been so happy in sitting back on a sunny arvo drinking this in spades. But now, there are so many other beers that eclipse it.

For fans of blondes (the beer type, not the still-sexy-in-her-sixties Kerri Anne Kennerley type), it’s quite nice. It’s a bit like Pure Blonde used to be before they messed it up. For non-blonde fans, take it or leave it.

Would I buy it again? I’m really not sure.
