Billy Carting ’round Sydney

Ever get nostalgic and think back to the good old days?

Those who grew up in the 90s know a thing or two about life before the internet, iPhones and MP3s. We had Warheads instead of Candy Crush, used our hands for handball instead of texting and could still go in the fridge at McDonalds birthday parties.

On weekends, we tore around the block on bikes with our neighbours and actually spent time with our families. If you were lucky you might have even convinced your Mum or Dad that you had to build a Billy Cart.

A somewhat unreliable yet incredibly cool form of transport, the classic Aussie Billy Cart was built in garages all over Australia throughout the 90s.

The ultimate “family time” activity, you might even remember your older brother or sister pushing you a little too eagerly down the road and tears/grazes/punch-ups ensuing .

With Red Bull Billy Cart tearing into Sydney this November, now’s the time to get back to basics and revisit those 90s childhood feels. The event, which hits Sydney on 15th November, will see amateur drivers and their fearless team of three build and race homemade billy cart vehicles.

Anyone can sign up or attend the event, so call your mates, dust off that Backstreet Boys record for inspiration and get building. Previous entries have included carts to the tune of a piano, a giant baby carriage, a rodeo clown, a massive corn on the cob, a jail cell and the Golden Gate Bridge – so don’t be afraid to get those creative juices flowing.

Applications must be postmarked by 17th July, but anyone can attend the event.
