How you like them (pine)apples

The good folks over at Plantation Rum were kind enough to send ManSpace magazine their latest sustainability bundle with the Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple Rum.

The sustainability package comes in a recyclable carton with metal straws and a straw cleaner but to be perfectly honest, it’s clearly not why you’re buying this bottle. You’re getting the pineapple rum because that right there just sounds incredible and the taste matches.

Winning two gold medals and one ‘Extraordinary Ultimate Recognition’, the Stiggins’ Fancy rum definitely already has some fans around the world, but it just found three more with myself and my housemates.

It tastes like a solid rum with hints of pineapple. Yes, I know, that’s not the most ground-breaking review, but the distillers have hit the nail on the head at giving it pineapple notes, not letting it overpower it and essentially become a premix before it even hits the serving glass.

As the distillery describes it: “The barks of Victoria pineapples are infused in Plantation Three Stars rum, which is then further distilled. Separately, the pineapple fruit is infused in Plantation Original Dark rum. Both distillate and fruit infusion are finally blended together, creating a rich and delicious pineapple bouquet, accented by smoky and clove notes.”

It’s a delight on the rocks but the recyclable packaging came with a serving suggestion which, when matched with this warm week of March we’re having, went down a treat.

Dubbed the Stiggins’ Rum Punch, it’s equal parts of the pineapple rum, orange juice, pineapple juice and ginger beer. While the complexities of the rum get a tad dampened, it might just be the perfect drink to sip on a hammock, on Friday evening after work.

In fact, I might say this drink was created, then someone came along and invented hammocks for this drink.

One thing you’re probably thinking right now is, what’s the Stiggins part?

As the Plantation Rum website outlines: “A tribute to the character created by Charles Dickens in the Pickwick Papers, Reverend Stiggins, whose favourite drink was ‘pineapple rum’.”

This bottle just gets better and better, how sweet.

Available at Dan Murphy’s stores right now (in the sustainability package too), the Fancy Stiggins’ Rum is a must-purchase while the sun still shines in March and hey, there’s always cocktails to make, all that’s left to do is experiment with the unique drop.
